PALATE

Rich flavours of dark berries and satsuma plums are balanced by underlying earthiness and sweet spice.

WINEMAKING

The 2017 Merlot fruit was handpicked in pristine condition. The fruit was chilled and whole bunch pressed to allow gentle pressing. The juice was transferred directly into French oak barrels and temperature controlled to ensure a slow fermentation process with natural (wild) yeasts.

COLOUR

Deep crimson with a plum hue.

NOSE

Aromas of dark berries with an earthy undertone.

FOOD PAIRING

Pairs beautifully with lamb ragu pappardelle pasta.

VINTAGE NOTES

The 2017 growing season had higher than average rain events late in the winter, followed by another one in early spring that increased soil moisture. October conditions were unseasonably warm, and combined with the increased soil moisture caused slightly higher than normal vine growth. The growing period was longer and milder which favoured the earlier ripening varieties - overall a challenging, cooler vintage, resulting in leaner, elegant more complex, austere styles.
